To organize the different varied of trades on a construction site is a big challenge. The lack of communication and a defective planning often lead to a failure to stay on costs and schedule. Potsdam based startup koppla addressed this problem. They developed a platform to optimize the planning and communication, and to reduce the costs and construction time. MTH Accelerator: What did you do before koppla?
koppla: The three of us began our koppla adventure directly after our studies. During our studies, though, we gained a lot of practical experience working at start-ups in various fields – Marco worked as a team leader in a tradesperson start-up and later carried out process analyses for established construction companies; Lasse gained experience in software development at SAP in the USA, among other things; and Jerome bounced around in the Berlin start-up scene before working in Nigeria for the GIZ’s energy programme.
MTH Accelerator: What is koppla?
koppla: koppla develops a production system for large construction sites in which general contractors and subcontractors work together on one system. This makes it possible to react to disruptions in real time and optimise the construction process in a data-driven way. koppla is now used by several established construction companies throughout the DACH region.
MTH Accelerator: Why the MTH Accelerator?
koppla: We are a start-up in its growth phase, and the MTH Accelerator offers us the opportunity to interact with other founders, provides us with substantial expertise via a strong network in the most diverse areas. In addition, we enjoyed using the MTH Accelerator’s co-working space and particularly appreciated the short decision-making processes for all kinds of issues.
MTH Accelerator: Why koppla?
koppla: 80% of all construction sites run over cost or over time, and this is mainly due to poor communication or bad planning. koppla combines planning based on LEAN Construction that uses a simple communication system, thus improving both planning and communication within the construction process. This reduces costs and shortens the construction time.

koppla: koppla is the production system for the construction site of the future and will end the age of conventional construction.
